PLR is a type of content that can be purchased, edited to suit your business needs, and repackaged with your own information added. It’s a fairly widespread practice in the digital space right now because it allows businesses to get their hands on excellent content without creating it from scratch.

If you’re looking to save time and resources while creating a fantastic new product or service, PLR content is an excellent place to start. Let’s take a look at what exactly PLR content is and how it can help you launch your business.

What does PLR mean?

PLR stands for private label rights. In simple terms, that means you buy the rights to the content so you can repackage it with your own information and branding.

That means you can edit the content to suit your own needs and have the right to use it for your business. You can apply it to different areas of your business, such as blog posts, social media posts, email newsletters, promotional materials, or even products to sell as your own.

The best part is that the content is typically good quality and can be repurposed in many different ways. There are plenty of reasons why businesses choose to buy and use PLR content:

PLR content is a popular choice for many online businesses, especially in the beginning. Many people start out with PLR content because they don’t have the budget or resources to create unique new content and products. Instead of starting from scratch and trying to figure things out on their own, they buy PLR content and rebrand it. It’s a great way to get started with a smaller budget.

PLR content is excellent for beginners, but it’s also popular with business owners at all levels because it saves them time creating content. It takes a lot of effort to develop blog post ideas, outline posts, and craft your message. It’s much easier to find PLR content and repurpose it.

You can repurpose PLR content in a few different ways. You can rewrite it, use it as is, or create a mashup of several pieces of content. It doesn’t matter which method you choose, as long as you put your own unique spin on the content. Doing this will help you stand out from others. We’ll talk about this more in a minute.

So, put simply, when you buy PLR products, you’ll receive a license that outline what you can and cannot do with your new content. A PLR license will vary from seller to seller.

Some PLR licenses are more restrictive, and some offer more rights than others. It is essential to understand what you’re buying and what you can do with it. If you’re ever unsure about what you can and can’t do with a piece of PLR content, it’s best to contact the supplier and ask.

What is PLR Content?

Generally speaking, your license will allow you to brand the PLR content and use/sell it as your own. You’ll typically be able to give it away, use it as website and social media content, and more. In most cases, the only thing you won’t be able to do is to allow your customers to customise, brand, and resell it.

There are other types of content licenses you can buy, too. These are known as resale rights, master resale rights, and transferable private label rights, which have very different licensing terms. It is essential to recognise the differences between these licenses. So, I think you’ll find this blog post helpful: What is the difference between PLR, RR and MMR?

What’s wrong with PLR content?

You know this is not an uncommon question. In fact, I would say that people are naturally suspicious of PLR. Perhaps it feels too good to be true. Although I’m not going to lie, sometimes it is too good to be true.

Pros and Cons of PLR

There are, of course, pros and cons of using PLR. We’ll take a quick look at a few of these. But it is essential to recognise that only you know what is good for your business. So, the downsides of PLR might not actually be downsides for you. It is up to you to weigh up what you need to help you move forward.

Pros:

  • PLR is Cheaper than Outsourcing
  • PLR Can Be Used As A Research Tool
  • PLR is a Time saver
  • PLR Can Be Edited & Branded

  • PLR is Never Unique to You

You may have also heard many myths surrounding the use and sale of PLR content. Again, a few of these may have hints of truth in them, depending on how you view them. However, on the whole, these myths don’t tend to tell the whole truth.

From experience, they tend to be pointed out by people with an extremely linear view of content marketing. I firmly believe that to put out content that your audience loves; you need to be creative and flexible.

Nonetheless, these are the three myths you’ll come across the most about using PLR content:

  1. PLR is duplicate content
PLR is not duplicate content. The same content purposely published on the same site over and over - or across several websites - is considered duplicate content. However, PLR is content you can edit and repurpose in different ways. All you need to do is put some thought into how you can make the content fit your niche, and you can repurpose the content for your own blog or website.

  2. PLR is generic content
Now, some PLR content can be generic and boring - there’s no point lying about it. But this is where learning about where to get good PLR will come in really useful. But also, to go back to what I said earlier,

PLR content is better for you and your business if you rebrand it with your own words and give it your own perspective. It’s not generic if you make it your own. If you don’t jazz it up a little with your own voice, then, of course, it will be generic.

  3. PLR is not ethical
It all depends on who you buy PLR from as to whether it is ethical or unethical.

Purchasing PLR from content mills that pay their writers poorly and produce poor-quality content is indeed unethical.

However, plenty of reputable sources sell PLR content, and you can use these resources to find valuable (and legal) content for your blog.

Buying PLR from smaller dedicated sellers, like me, who put time and effort into creating high-quality and engaging content, will result in PLR content that is more ethical.

Why use PLR content for your business?

At a fundamental level, using PLR content is about not feeling like you need to reinvent the wheel. As a small business, you’re likely working with a tiny budget - both in terms of money and time.

Finding the right people to work with and creating your brand, website, and products can be incredibly difficult and expensive. For many small businesses, hiring people is out of the question for at least a year.

With PLR content, it is like you’ve hired a personal assistant dedicated to helping you with your content and product creation. You’ll have quality content to post on your social media, website, and emails pretty much instantly.

Using PLR content saves you time because you don’t have to create new content from scratch every time. You can therefore focus on other aspects of your business as a result. Furthermore, you can repurpose your content to suit different audiences. For example, let’s say you publish an article on your blog about how blogging can help your business. You can repurpose this content and turn it into several posts for your company’s Facebook page.

So, if you can keep repurposing your PLR content, you’ll find you have much more content to use in your business than you ever had before. You can also use PLR content to start a blog, create an ebook, or write a white paper. You can even use PLR content to create videos. The possibilities are endless, and you can use PLR content for years. You will create more and more valuable content for your audience if you constantly look for ways to reuse content.

Is it possible to get free PLR Content?

Absolutely, you can get free PLR content. In fact, I highly recommend that you do.

When I am contemplating buying PLR from someone I haven’t used before, I look at two main things to try and determine the quality I’m likely to get. First, I look at the seller’s website. For me, you can tell how much effort has been put into a website. You can also usually spot a scammy website a mile away. So, I take my time to see how I feel about a website.

Secondly, I look for and download any free PLR content I can.

What is PLR Content?

It’s common for PLR creators and sellers, like myself, to offer free samples of their content to prove themselves. Sure, providing free content that our audience wants to use is an excellent way to attract new customers. However, providing free PLR content is also a way to demonstrate that we are trustworthy content creators.

I am more than willing to give away free content. In fact, the people on my email list have access to my freebie vault, which contains all the freebies I have created.
