Growing a captive audience requires that you bring people into your community so that you can engage with them. There are numerous ways to accomplish community building such as via forums on your website, discussion areas on blog posts, YouTube videos, podcast comments and more, including via your email list. Plus, of course, you can build directly on Facebook with groups.

You can use Facebook Ads to grow your captive audience, whether you want to send them to your spaces on Facebook or off Facebook. The reason is that Facebook ads can be incredibly targeted toward your specific audience, depending on what your CTA is. Facebook ads are the best answer to helping you accomplish what you want to in your business without breaking the bank.

Before we get into the process, let's set some expectations, because not everyone is going to notice your ad, and you might have to test a few different ads before you see results. It's going to take some tweaking, and that's okay.

Important Factors of Facebook Advertising

Patience is Key

Running Facebook ads can take time. It's not always instantaneous. Some people do get lucky and notice a significant result on their first day. But, most of the time you can tell within six months if your ads are going to work or not.

Know Your Audience

This is the number one important thing about running Facebook ads. If you don't know who you're targeting, you'll find it difficult to reap the benefits of Facebook advertising. It will be hard to create the ad, or create the landing page for the ad, or even create a product, service or community that your audience will want to buy.

Know Your Goals & Objectives

Before you run a single advertisement, you need to know precisely why you're advertising. If you don't know, then it'll be hard to target the right audience. A few goals might be to get more likes to your Page, or sell a product, a service, or build your email list.

Understand How to Invest Properly

Make no mistake; spending money on Facebook Ads is an investment that you need to take seriously and understand. You are not guaranteed results from your ads, so you need to do your due diligence to give yourself the best opportunity for success.

Keep it Fresh

Even when you find the right ad that works, eventually your audience will develop "ad blindness", so you need to focus on keeping your ads fresh. Don't replace them if they're working, but if the results you want aren't happening, mix things up and make them look new. Keep an eye on the data.

Focus on Spreading Your Message

The main thing is that you want to spread your message to as many of your target audience members as possible. You want to spread it via your blog, your social posts, and your other actions, depending on your goals.

Check the Data

It's essential to look at the metrics and data so that you know if what you're doing is working or not. Don't just start the ad and ignore it. Run it for a few days and then look at the data. You want to use audience insights to get cues about how to make your ads better. Figure out if you're getting the return on investment (ROI) that works for you and fix it if you aren't.

Use Landing Pages

When you push visitors toward your website, the best thing you can do is send them to a well-made landing page with excellent images and words that encourage visitors to answer your call to action.

Finally, understand what you or goals are for the advertisement. Do you want to encourage engagement? Do you want to sell something? Do you want to get people to sign up for your email list? You can focus on any other number of calls to action depending upon your goals.

Getting Started

To get started and enjoy benefits of Facebook advertising, you're going to need to create a Facebook page, develop the ad to put on Facebook, plus create a landing page to send people to when they click on the advertisement if you're not sending them to a group or elsewhere. To find the ad manager, look on the left side of your Facebook Page under Ad Manager and the right side under the dropdown where it says create ads or Ad Manager.

Let's discuss the first steps of reaping the benefits of facebook advertising

Create Your Facebook Page

To run Facebook Ads, you need to have a Page for your business. You cannot run ads on your Page or a group. So, your first job is to create a Facebook page with a good cover, the right image, About Page and more. Fill it all out using keywords, and information the audience will want to know.

Create a Landing Page If Needed

If you're going to be sending people to a website or landing page, it's vital to create it before you start creating your ad. You want to ensure that your target audiences match. One problem with conversions is often that the advertisement's target audience and the landing page target audience are mismatched.

Determine Your Goals

Before you even go to Facebook to set up your ad, you will need to ensure that you know what your goals are. That way, you'll know what to choose on Facebook when you physically create the advertisement.

Set Up Your Campaign Objective

On Facebook, choosing your campaign objective is straightforward. It will depend on whether your aim is to create awareness, collect leads, or to get people to purchase or another goal.

Set Up Your Ad

Once you have accomplished everything else, you'll need to set up your ad by choosing a target audience, how you want the ad placed, and under what schedule you want it to appear.

Choose Compelling Imagery

The images you choose for your advertisements are essential. Know what gets your audience excited and what would turn them off. Choose images that strike an emotion in them that make them want to click on your advertisement.

Whether you're launching a new product, want to raise awareness about your business, or market existing products, one of the best ways to do that is to use social media and in particular, Facebook. With so many hundreds of millions of people using Facebook, you can be sure that your audience is there. The benefits of Facebook advertising are massive, keep reading to find out how to enjoy them.

Set Your Budget

When you're setting up your advertisement, you'll be asked what your budget is. Know what you want before you start.

An excellent way to do it is to start with about five dollars a day, and then if you're getting a good response, you can boost it. Your ad is working if you're selling more than the cost. If your return on investment is suitable, increase your budget.

But, if you're just building awareness, you'll have to determine what your total budget is in advance since you won't notice an immediate return on investment. Also, make sure if you're not sending your audience to your website or a landing page but instead to your groups, or another page on Facebook, that you know what the link is so that you can do it properly.

For awareness building, the key to creating captive audiences comes after you've run your advertisement and brought your audience to your community. Which we'll discuss now...

How to Succeed Growing Your Audience with Facebook Ads

The mechanics of the ads will change as Facebook changes and improves its offerings. So, the most essential part of succeeding with Facebook Ads is matching your goals with your budget and understanding how to target your ads accurately. Now we'll look at some potential goals and outcomes.

Get More Group Members

Run a Facebook advertisement promoting your group by sending people to your website where you'll have a landing page for a freebie or opt-in. At that point you tell those who signed up for your Facebook group in the welcome email. Or even on the download page for your freebie. Anyplace you can tell people about your group do so.

Get Creative

With Facebook ads, you can't run ads from Groups, but there are many creative ways to market your group.

One good way to market your group is to start hosting webinars. Run a Facebook ad for your free webinar, then offer the attendees to join your free Facebook group. The more active and encouraging your group is, the more captive they'll be. Use something like Bit.ly to shorten the link or buy a domain name for your group so that you can easily send people to your group.

Create More Awareness for Your Page

The best way to create awareness for your Facebook page is to create a short video as a status update, then boost the post.

Also, you can advertise just for your Page to get more likes using Facebook ads. Once people like your Page, though, you need to ensure that you are providing enough content to keep them interested without overdoing it. Encourage likes, clicks, and interaction by commenting back to people and sharing valuable and useful content.

Benefits of Facebook Advertising

Sell Products or Services

On a Facebook Page, you can create a call to action through the button that appears on the right side under your Facebook Cover Page.

This link can link to anything that meets the terms of service on Facebook, including leading them to shop your products on your website. If you want to sell more products, ensure that your call to action is appropriate on the Page before you start posting Facebook Ads.

Try & Test Your Facebook Ads

Using Facebook Ads to grow your captive audience requires an understanding of the Facebook Ad platform, your products, services, and your audience. There are so many features that you won't fail if you take the time to understand it or hire a professional to help you. Determine how much your budget is, get everything else prepared, and give it a try. You'll be glad you did.

Make the most of your Facebook ads.

Facebook has more than 1.8 billion monthly active users. Thankfully, you don't have to search through all of these users one-by-one to connect with your target market.

Facebook provides fantastic tools that essentially find your target market for you.

But don't stop there. You can get more prospects and sales with Facebook Ads.

Make Contacting You Easy

Before running ads on your Facebook Page, make sure your contact info is correct and found in multiple places on your Page and profile.

Also, link to your website, in case they need to use the contact form there. When you make it easy for people to contact you, it gives them the impression that you do care about them.

Use Video in Your Facebook Ads

Video is an essential tool for advertising. Facebook Ads with video perform a lot better than Facebook Ads without video.

Plus, you can say so much more in a video than you can with a static image and text.

Video Ideas:

  • Day in the Life
  • Unboxing a Product
  • Short Lesson
  • An expert from a Live Event
  • Testimonials from Others

Include text with the video but create a short 90-second or less video that you can use for marketing purposes. Think outside the box and don't make it all about selling. Make it about showing the benefits.

Go Live

Did you know that you can turn a live presentation on Facebook Live into an advertisement too? This is a great way to use the Facebook Live feature.

People get to  see your promotion when it's live, which is excellent. But, once the video is recorded, edit it. Add text to the description box, including any landing page links. Choose a good image for the thumbnail. Next, go into your ad manager and choose that video as your advertisement. These video ads tend to have a more authentic feel, and they are a great way to use "look-a-like" audiences.

Focus on Providing Value

People don't go to Facebook expressly to shop. However, Facebook Ads that focus on a valuable free solution or information tend to get more interaction. This frequently leads to more mailing list subscribers because the viewer sees your ad offer as being helpful, rather than as a sales ploy.

When you focus on being a resource to your audience, you build trust much faster than if everything is always about selling. Think about how and why you tell friends about a good deal you saw at a store. You share useful information with people you care about. Since you want to build a caring relationship with your readers and members, take this same approach with them.

Study Your Audience Insights

One of the most significant benefits of Facebook advertising is that they have fantastic analytics available. On your Page, click "insights" and drill down to find out more about your Facebook audience. This is very useful because the more you know about your audience, the better you can meet their needs, as well as adjust your marketing plan as needed.

You can learn:

  • Demographics
  • Likes, interests, and hobbies
  • Lifestyle such as where they shop
  • Place of residence
  • Educational level
  • Job Titles
  • Relationship Status

If your targeting is off track, you may not have the right audience. This will give you the information you need to tweak your Facebook Ads so that you can choose the right audience.

Benefits of Facebook Advertising

Develop Ads for Different Audiences

Most businesses, while having an ideal target audience, have segmented audiences too. These sub-sections make it possible to create different ads for different segments. This is useful when using look-a-like audiences and retargeting.

You can also run ads that only target people who have liked your Page, ensuring that they see the information you post.

Use Look-a-Like Audiences for Ads

If you already have an email list, one great way to get more likes for your Facebook is to target the members of your list. Facebook allows you to upload your audience email addresses so that you can target just them, or you can match them with a look-a-like audience. Facebook uses an algorithm to compare your list with others so that they can deliver your advertisement to a broader audience.

Use Retargeting with the Facebook Pixel

Don't forget to install the Facebook Pixel on your website. The Pixel will make it possible for you to run ads that target only people who have previously visited your website.

Install the standard code on every Page, but put the event code on specific pages that you want to target. You can find direction for doing this here.

How and where you install the Pixel will depend on the platforms you use, such as WordPress, Clickfunnels, and so forth.

Create Effective and Specialized Landing Pages for Each Ad

Don't forget to make great landing pages. A landing page is designed to reduce distractions and allow viewers to focus on the main call to action.

Each advertisement should have a landing page. This helps your viewers understand what you want them to do. There is software to help you create amazing landing pages, such as Clickfunnels.com, Leadpages.net, Mailerlite.com, and Convertkit.com.

Stop Selling So Hard

The best way to reap the benefits of Facebook advertising is to use them to promote your brand more often than you use the ads to sell a product. Building your email list should be the primary goal of most Facebook Advertising.

It's easier to make sales to people who sign up for your list before you start suggesting paid products. However, don't let that stop you from including links to landing pages that sell, especially on the recorded Live events.

Facebook is a very powerful platform that enables you to narrow your target audience even down to the zip code. Don't be afraid of Facebook Ads.

Go check out your Ad Manager now to find out how simple it is to use. If you're unsure, outsource a Facebook Advertising campaign to an expert and find out if it'll work for you.

You can learn a lot just by running inexpensive, $5 and $10 ads. Facebook makes it simple by giving you tips along the way.
